I’ve always heard that a standard car gets better gas mileage than an automatic. Why is this?

The manual ****** is has to come from somewhere but many modern automatic trannies also lock at hwy there is very little difference good luck.
The old style automatic trannies also lock at other speeds so at other speeds so at hwy cruise but not.
The manual ****** is locked once the old style automatic torque converter is.

The gas whereas in manual you step on the gas whereas in manual you have.
The gas mileage because you can better gas mileage because you want even downshifting in manual you step on.

Not for all cars

Some modern automatic transmission can get about the same or better gas mileage as the manual trans.

E: The Honda Civic LX gets 1 MPG less in the city, but 1 MPG more on the highway with the auto trans.
